Well, this one was a heart-breaker. The Spartans pushed Navy to the limit, but still lost in a triple overtime thriller, 58 – 52. David Fales made one mistake all game, an interception in the last overtime. That was all it took for San Jose State to fall.
Before the interception Fales was lights out and showed scouts why he has NFL potential. The Spartan quarterback threw for over 400 yards and had five touchdown passes. His completion percentage was an impressive 75%. However the Spartans still fell. It was common problem areas that did them in; one was a running game struggling again. The second was a run defense that was thoroughly dominated by the Navy Midshipmen. Keenan Reynolds, the Navy quarterback rushed for an alarming and astounding 7 touchdowns and over 200 yards. Those seven touchdowns were good for an NCAA record.
With this loss, the Spartans now must win against Fresno State to have any shot at a bowl berth. Twice in the past three weeks the Spartans have lost games they could have and probably should have won. San Jose State is now in a position where they must win a game no one expects them to win. Kickoff is set for Black Friday.
