Tomorrow night the Spartans welcome the Aztecs to San Jose in a big Mountain West game for both teams. The game is especially significant for San Jose State as the team needs only one more victory to become bowl eligible. Although the Spartans should be favored at home, San Diego State does pose a threat as they almost defeated Fresno State and last season played the Spartans tough.
David Fales will have to play better than his performance in Las Vegas last week. Although the Spartan running game picked up the slack, the freshmen who led the unit cannot be asked to shoulder the offensive burden week after week. This is especially the case against a strong Aztec run defense. Tomorrow’s contest cannot be understated in it’s importance to both teams, especially the Spartans. The team that loses tomorrow likely alters it’s season for the worst. San Diego State would be under .500 and need to win all of it’s remaining games just to finish above .500. San Jose State travels to Nevada next week in a tough road test. If they lose tomorrow, they could conceivably be 5-5 by the end of next week. Add to that the fact that a loss tomorrow may put San Jose State out of the Mountain West title game picture, and the stakes are clear. Kickoff is tomorrow night at 7:30.
