In a few hours the Spartans will take on undefeated Big 10 school Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are 3-0 and will be another test for San Jose State. Although not as daunting a task as Stanford, Minnesota does pose issues. Most notable is the Golden Gophers ability to run the football. Stanford sustained most of their drives with the run against San Jose State and Minnesota will attempt to do the same. The defense for the Spartans must contain the run if they hope to win in Minnesota on Saturday.
Interesting subplots also surround the game. As noted earlier, Noel Grigsby is out. David Fales will need to find other targets and this game may show his resourcefulness if the Spartans win. San Jose State can also show the nation they are a force to be reckoned with if they can beat a Big 10 school on the road. An interesting side note for Minnesota is the status of their head coach, Jerry Kill, who suffered a seizure at halftime of Minnesota’s last game. Kill will return to the sidelines against San Jose State. This nationally televised game should be filled with emotion and can possibly send the Spartan’s season in either direction.
