After their last two games, San Jose State is probably relieved to be starting Mountain West play. The Spartans could not take advantage of a stellar David Fales performance and fell to still undefeated Big 10 opponent Minnesota. The Spartans were once again unable to control the run on defense but were only down 20-17 going into halftime. If not for a fumble and questionable conversion attempt on 4th down, the men from San Jose may have entered halftime leading. The Golden Gophers dominated the second half though and the game became a blowout.
Despite the loss, San Jose State improved overall from their game against Stanford. David Fales had more protection from his offensive line and looked sharp. Two interceptions were not his fault as they were enabled through deflections. One area that must improve though is the defense against the run. Utah State comes into San Jose on Friday night in what should be an excellent game. Stay tuned for a preview on that contest later in the week.
